Yoghurt Dessert With Orange Blossom Water

November 8, 2021

Prep Time 5 minutes
You probably have fruit and yoghurt for breakfast but orange blossom water transforms this staple morning fare into a refreshingly exotic way to end a meal.

Used in many dessert and baking recipes throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East, orange blossom water is water distilled with the essence of flowers from orange trees. Flower petals are gently boiled in water and the aromatic steam is captured and condensed into an almost clear, highly fragrant, and gently flavored liquid. It’s flavor is a surprise and deceptively powerful so use it with caution to avoid overwhelming other ingredients.

That’s the trick to this recipe – getting the right hint of flavor and there is no set proportions to do that. It is a matter of taste.

What you need (for two)
3/4 cup of plain Greek Yoghurt
1/2 Teaspoon orange blossom water( Amazon stocks it).
Coarsley chopped Crushed hazelnuts (use a knife not a pestle and mortar which will crush them into dust).
Fresh berries
Honey

What to do
1 – Mix orange blossom water with yoghurt. If the the taste is too subtle, add a few more drops of orange blossom water.

2 – Add fruit, a drizzle of honey and garnish with hazelnuts.

As an after dinner digestive drink

Orange blossom water also makes a delicious after dinner digestive drink. Known as Ahwa Beida (Arabic for white coffee) it is far healthier and more soothing than coffee and a few drops in boiling hot water is all you need. See recipe
